We know it will be followed by three sequels, and each film will be a stand-alone story with Landau stating that the journey will form a connected saga in all four films.
Avatar 2 delayed: Why did it take so long?
The filming was supposed to begin on Avatar 2 in April 2016, but April 2016 came and went, and filming did not begin.
In January of the following year, it was announced that work on the motion-capture element of the film would begin by August 2017, but it actually started announcement of the fourth Avatar film was pushed back altogether, and yet all of them were pushed back again, with Avatar 2 planned for December 2017.
Avatar 2: The Way of Water 2022 is releasing in cinemas on 16 December.
